Info

1. Kinetic Effect

Dry ice pellets make impact on the layer provoking fractures

2. Thermal Effect

Dry ice penetrates and generates a sudden local temperature decrease on both the dirt layer and the substrate. The different materials contract unequally so that the adherence between them diminishes

3. Sublimation

After making impact, the dry ice turns into gas, expanding its volume by a factor of 800. The expansion acts as an explosion that detaches completely the layer from the substrate

4. The Result

The substrate remains clean, un-damaged and completely intact

Dry Ice Blasting or Co2 Blasting is a cleaning process using solid Co2 pellets (known as dry ice). Dry Ice Pellets sublimate once they’ve hit the surface to be cleaned (convert directly from a solid blast pellet to a vapor) leaving a clean, dry surface with no residue. Dry Ice Pellets are propelled at a high speed through our Dry Ice Cleaning equipment. Upon impact, the dry ice creates a thermal shock (caused by the extreme cold temperature of -78ยบ C) which breaks the bond between the coating and the substrate. The high pressure air stream removes the dirt from the surface, while the Dry Ice Pellets vaporize (sublimate) before your eyes.
